Fishing forecast for May - Summer is almost upon us, and the fish have arrived. Redfish are still constant catches when the wind isn't howling. The Reds are starting to show up in the duck ponds as the tides are getting higher, and grass is getting thicker. The next 6 months should begin fabulous fishing with the approach of Summer, spawning, and the shrimp season. Our calendar is filling up fast, book your trip now!

Today I had Mike Mercer and his dad, Due to the heat the customers only wanted to fish till 10am. They caught a few redfish and a few trout. They also had a flounder. The redfish were caught on spinner baits and the trout we caught on gulps under a cork.

April 29, 2012

Took today off since the boat blessing was going on in Lafitte today. The bayou is always filled with many boaters. I decided to spend my day at the 2012 Zurich Classic of New Orleans out at TPC Louisiana enjoying some golf with my 2 sons and their wives. The bloody marys were great and it was an exciting finish. Congrats to Jason Dufner.

April 28, 2012

Today I had the Percle party on a morning trip. The wind was still blowing from Friday afternoon which made conditions difficult. Finding clean water is the ticket. The group finished up with a mix bag of fish caught on spinner baits and glow beetles under a cork.

April 27, 2012

Today we did an afternoon trip with the Finan party. The winds were howling and fishing late in the afternoon didn't produce many fish. They decided to keep enough for dinner and released the rest to fight another day.

April 26, 2012

Today, I had the Charles Seabourne party from Texas. It was a pretty windy day but the trout were still biting so they guys managed to boat a nice mess of trout. DeeAnn Troutman who fished with Capt. Barry had the big redfish of the day. The redfish were biting on #4 H&H Spinners with Black and Chartreuse salty grubs. The trout were biting on glow beetles under a cork.

April 25, 2012

Three boats out today, Capt Mike D, Capt Mike J and Capt Dave had the Ross Meyers party. I had Bill Korby who was on his honeymoon fishing trip. Capt. Mike J had mostly trout, Capt Dave had reds, Capt. Mike D and I had a mix bag of trout and reds. Spoons and spinner baits for the reds and beetles under a cork for the trout. Out again tomorrow.

April 24, 2012

Tuesday I had the pleasure of guiding the Brown family, Jenn, Trey and Tracey. Everything today was big or small and not much in the middle. Trey had the big fish of the day, an awesome 12lb redfish. All fish caught on gulps under a cork. Capt. Barry, Capt. Dave and Capt. Austin had the Brian Roth party catching a mix bag of reds , trout and a few flounder. If anyone from the Roth party has pictures from today, please email them to lafittefishing@cox.net and we will be glad to post them to this report.

April 20, 2012

5 boats outs today. Capt. Barry and I had the DeSoto Party. Capt, Dave, Donavan and Austin had the Botsford party. All boats had a great day of fishing. The best fish of the day went to Cristie with her biggest fish ever, a 12lb plus red, you go girl. Still rounding a up a few pictures, will post them when I can.

April 19, 2012

Today, I had Dave Bristol and his friend Craig. It was mostly a
trout day, with a few reds towards the end of the day. Fished a little further down South compared to recently and from the bite we found, it looks like May is going to be a fabulous month.  The guys only kept a few trout for lunch at Jan`s.

 April 14th - April 18th - Vacation

April 13, 2012

Today Capt. Barry had the Carlson party, Capt. Mike had the Albritten party and I had the Dupris party. It was a tough day for all of us because of the windy conditions, but with a stick and move game plan we all managed to put a mess of fish in the boat. Mike's boat caught their fish on Spinner baits and Capt.  Barry and I fished Berkley Gulp shrimp under a cork.

The weather outlook this weekend looks like another repeat of today. Winds tomorrow are expected to be 20-25 mph. We'll mostly hideout back in the marshes with a high tide and see if we can get some of the redfish that will be lurking in the shallow water ponds.

April 11-12, 2012

A couple of tough days on the water. Wednesday the Smith kids with a couple of nice reds and on Thursday David and his mom Donna. David's first time red fishing was a charm produced an awesome 10 pounder.

April 10, 2012

Today I had the pleasure of fishing with Tony Mangano and his son Tony Jr. Capt. Jason also had a father and son team the Armstrong's, they caught a mix bag of reds and trout. It was a stick and move kind of morning for us, picking up 1 or 2 fish here and there at each spot, but as the morning came to an end 18 to 20 fish were landed with the best one going 12lbs. All fish caught on spinner baits and gulps under a cork and all fish on both boats released to fight another day.

April 9, 2012

Last Day of Easter Vacation for me so I decided to take my wife and grand daughter who is on spring break from school out for some midday fun. We left the dock about 12:30 p.m. and only stayed out for a few hours. We were able to get on a few redfish but the midday bite was not great as expected. We just enjoyed being out on the water. Back to work tomorrow.

April 8, 2012

On Easter Sunday we headed up to McComb, MS to enjoy the wonderful weather and a day off. We decided to do some fishing in our pond and my 2 grandkids had a great time. My youngest grandchild, Dylan, Caught his first fish ever on a Car's Movie fishing Pole! I really like how the fishing pole makes noise (burns rubber) when casting.

April 6-7, 2012

Friday and Saturday turned out to be a tough couple of days. The Burleigh family of Steve, Holly and their son Chris fished hard to put a mix bag of fish in the box. Capt. Dave's party, the Britt`s, had even a tougher day only boating a few for the box, but he did manage a better catch with the Hessel party on Saturday. Spinner baits and shrimp under a cork for the reds and gulps under a cork for the trout.

April 5, 2012

Robert Shoemaker said his wife was just coming along for the ride so I told him to get her a license just in case she decides to make a few cast. It was only her second time fishing and she caught twice as many fish as the boys. Spinner baits and shrimp under a cork. With a late start around 9:30 the shrimp proved to be the bait of the day.

April 4, 2012

All Trips Cancelled today due to Weather Conditions

April 3, 2012

Three boats out today all catching limits of redfish and a few trout for dinner. Capt Barry had the Mattingly party, Capt. Mike had the Paton party and I had Jim Ziebart and his son Brian. All boats fished in the ponds throwing spinnerbaits in blk/chart. I was able to get a couple of pictures of the smaller fish before my camera battery died, but the customers will send me some pictures of the bigger fish in a couple of days and we will post them then. Out again tomorrow with Jim and Brian.

April 2, 2012

Day two with the Beatty party turned out as good as Saturday. I would like to thank Jerry, Nate, Rob, Ray and Jerry from Dearborn, Michigan for spending three days with us. Also Danny Zoeller and his group for a couple days of fishing. Once again it was spinner baits for the reds and gulps under a cork for the trout. Capt. Barry's boat had 20 plus beautiful trout to go along with a mess of redfish. Nate won big fish with an 11 pounder. Capt. Mike caught and released another 15 plus redfish. Thanks everyone for a great weekend.

April 1, 2012

Just a few more pictures from the weekend trips. We had the Lechtenberg party, Beatty party and Danny Zoeller who's group couldn't make it due to a rough night on Bourbon Street (it happens!), but him and I had a great time. Hopefully they will make the second day on Monday. All fish caught on spinner baits in less than 2 feet of water.
