January 2006

This time of year the trout action is usually good and so are the redfish. The weather is still warm and the fish are very close to the marinas. All baits are currently working; whether top water, tightline, under a cork it just does not matter!  So give us a call Toll-Free 1-877-689-4120 and Let's Go Fishing! Capt. EJ

January 29, 2006 - February 7, 2006 - On Vacation in the Big Apple to celebrate my 35th Wedding Anniversary. Be Back on the water starting Feb. 9th. Please check back for the latest happenings in the Lafitte area. Thanks, Capt. EJ

January 29, 2006 -The Hattisburg. Ms. Group. Virgil, Debra, Chris, Brandon, Jim, Kim, Mark, and a 14 year old that I didn`t get his name. He is the kid in the picture with the 2 redfish. Some of these guys have fished with me before and today they brought along some new blood. After the strong winds yesterday and last night we were afraid of the water being dirty but the south end of the lakes turned out to be fairly clean. Between Capt. Joe`s boat and mine we had 102 trout, 2 reds and 1 bass. What a fish fry its going to be tonight. They can`t wait to do it again. Conditions: overcast and light winds. Bait: beetle`s under a cork. Capt. E.J.

January 27, 2006 -Today`s fishing trip was dedicated to Ronald Banner. He paid for it, was going to be on it, but didn`t make it. Ronald the guys just wanted to rub it in. Larry Hall, Kirk Chauffe, A.J. Liner and Luther Ayers joined me today. They are all from Slidell and all had major storm damage. After months of repair work they needed some R&R. I know A.J remembers R&R .Australia, Bangkok, and Hawaii. Anyway, all these guys are pretty good fisherman and proved that today with a catch of 67 trout, not a bad day. Conditions: light winds, overcast and clean water. Bait: Old faithful. A big thanks to Ronald, the guys had a ball. Capt. E.J

January 26, 2006 - I must say I was sad to see this day come to an end. After fishing with John and Larry for three days I really enjoyed the pleasure of their company. Today was just about the same as yesterday. Two dozen trout and no relief from the wind. Conditions : cloudy, cold and windy. Bait: beetle`s under a cork and a few today on a glow cocahoe on the bottom. I would like to thank these guys for three laid back days of fishing and look forward to their return next January. Have a safe trip back to New York, I`ll be there next Friday. Thanks; Capt. E.J.

January 25, 2006 -Day two with John and Larry. Sounds like a soap opera. A much tougher day than yesterday. 23 keeper fish, 22 trout, 1 redfish and 1 rod & reel which John managed to cast overboard, good thing we were using corks. One more day with the guys from New York, hopefully we will have less wind tomorrow. Conditions: sunny and very windy. Bait: beetle`s under a cork. Capt. E.J.

January 24, 2006 - Pictured below is just a dozen of the 50+ trout we caught today, their dinner and mine. John Sprague and Larry Simmons from New York ,both dairy farmers, (Larry is retired), will be fishing with me for two more days. Today was all trout, hopefully tomorrow we will be able to find a few red fish. Big weather change from yesterday, overcast, cold and windy for most of the morning. Bait: what else, beetle`s under a cork. Capt. E.J.

January 22, 2006 - 2 Boats out Today

Papa Joe had a two great guys in town helping with the recovery effort. After catching some really nice specks and reds they called it a day early and beat me back to the dock. Joe said that they wouldn't let him clean the fish because they wanted to take them home to show them off.

I had the pleasure of fishing with the Stogner boys, Tony, Dwight and Wayne back for their second time, and I`am sure they will be back for a third. Not the best fishing conditions for Sunday, but these boys just kept casting and managed to catch 40 plus fish for the day, mostly trout. Conditions; rainy and very windy. Bait beetle under a cork. Capt. E.J.

January 21, 2006 - Todays trip was cancelled thanks to good ole mother nature. Or should I say good ole weather forcaster. Went to sleep Friday night with an 80% chance of thunderstorms for Saturday AM. Well, low and behold, it did not rain a drop. And probably one of the best weather days a fisherman could ask for. Flat Calm, Cloudy, little foggy and Gnats. Really wishing I was there. When I went outside my neighbor Henry Bourgeois asked me if I wanted to go with him on his boat for a little while, so, even on my day off, I just had to go. After a short 2 hour trip, we boated 20 Fat Specks and called it a day.

January 20, 2006 - Friday the 20th of January, Jeremy Smith and his friend Michelle joined me today for some hot Lafitte fishing.  This was one of those last minute bookings from the night before, a spur of the moment thing that sometimes works out for the best.  We left the trout biting in search for some redfish. Between the both of them they boated over 70 reds.  After sore wrists and arms we called it an early day.  Only 12 trout and 2 redfish were kept for dinner...my kind of trip.  Conditions were light winds and overcast, bait was beetles under a cork and H&H cocahoe's on the bottom. Capt. E.J.

January 16, 2006 - The Kevin Cuevas group from Hattisburg, MS. consisting of Mike Rose, Casey Pittman, Kim Carter & Kevin joined me today. Kevin has been fishing with me several times before and is always bringing some new blood. We left the dock at 7am and didn`t have very far to go. Today was just one of those days. Just before the front, overcast and light winds. A day that I would have liked to have been bass fishing, in fact we even put 10 or 12 in the boat. Bait: what else, glow beetle under a cork and H&H cocahoe`s tight lining. Great box of fish, 95 total and they are looking forward to next time. Capt. E.J.

January 15, 2006 - 2 Boats Out Today

Capt. Bob`s crew for the day. I didn`t get any names but they are here doing recovery work for FEMA. Not a bad catch guys. Get the oil ready, we are going to have a fish fry tonight.

My clients for the day were Matt Allen and Shane Hall. They have been trying to get this trip in for the last couple of weeks. It was not the best day we could have asked for, but after running around for two hours with no luck, we found a few fish and ended the day with a nice mess of reds and trout . Conditions overcast and cold. Bait; beetle`s under a cork. Out again tomorrow. Capt. EJ

January 10, 2006 - After a slow weekend the trout are on once again in Lafitte. Normally I don`t keep fish when I am scouting but a friend of mind that doesn`t fish has been begging me for a bag of trout. It didn`t take me long to catch a mess this morning. Conditions: Just before the front, cloudy and warm with light winds, clean water. Bait: Beetle`s under a cork and even a few on a rattle trap.  Capt. E.J

January 7, 2006 - Beth St. Paul and her nephew John from the East Bank joined me today. Knowing how cold it was going to be in the morning and having a 30 minute boat ride we decided to leave at 10am It didn`t take long for John to catch his first red fish and probably a dozen more. He even caught his first trout. Happy Birthday to the birthday boy. Conditions: sunny and cold. Bait: shrimp on the bottom, the only way to go for young anglers. A limit of reds. 2 trout, 1 drum and a bunch of sheepshead. Here is the crew with their catch. Capt E.J.

January 6, 2006 - Charles and Pam Clearman from Collinsville, Ms. Joined me today. The Clearman`s have fished with me several times, including yesterday, and know what conditions like today can do to the bite. Never judge a book by its cover and today turned out that way. 40 trout, 2 flounder, 1 catfish, 10 reds and too many sheepshead to count. Condition; Cold and very windy, muddy water everywhere. Bait; beetle`s under a cork and grubs on the bottom with a shrimp chaser. Capt. E.J.

January 5, 2006 - Had Pam and Charles Clearman from Mississippi out today. Fishing was good with a nice mess of Reds, Specks, and some Bay Snapper to show for our efforts. Didn't get a pic today, sorry, but I have them out again tomorrow so be looking for that one. Fished south today due to the cold and windy conditions. Found a nice Dead End canal with some clear water that had some depth and current.

January 2, 2006

Capt E.J. - Iain Baird and Doug Schroeder joined me today. We left the dock at 6:45 a.m. The trout were larger than Saturday but not as plentiful. 23 trout and 1 flounder and we worked for them. It was more like sailing than fishing. Conditions; very windy and overcast. Bait: beetle`s under a cork.

Capt. Tony had the John Garrett group. Here are the guys with acouple of the 22 trout they caught. All fish caught under a popping cork.

Capt. Bobby had the Matthew Kanode group, with Alex and David. They managed to catch 25 trout. All of their fish were caught under a cork. The bite was early, by 11:00 a.m. it just shut down.
